Etnies – Buy a shoe, Plant a tree

I just found myself innocently looking at shoes on http://etnies.com/ when I saw the scheme they run called ‘Buy a shoe, Plant a tree’.

What They say about it –

Etnies is fighting for our planet. We skate, surf, snowboard and ride BMX all on our ONE planet. It’s all we have and we want to keep it healthy so we can keep doing what we love. etnies’ green path to a healthier planet includes its Buy a Shoe, Plant a Tree reforestation project where etnies plants a tree for every pair of shoes purchased from its designated collection. Since its inception in 2011, etnies’ Buy a Shoe, Plant a Tree project has planted almost 170,000 trees throughout Costa Rica and Brazil in its first two years.

I love this idea! Everything they do from skating to surfing involves the worlds natural resource, so they repay that by giving back to the planet and planting tree’s. They say that over 32.1 million acres of forest are lost each year throughout the world(Both intentionally and through natural causes) Up to 2013 they planted 170,000 tree in parts of the world that need them. I think its incredible how each and every company is working on project like this. The companies that aren’t, won’t last for long unless they do.
