Vancouver – Greenest City

To follow the last post on Costa Rica attempt of living of 100% renewable energy, Canada’s city Vancouver which hosted the Winter Olympics in 2010, have commited to run off 100% renewable energy within the next 20 years. From what Alex Steffen said in his ted talk ‘A route to a sustainable future’ was that Cities had to change to achieve a longer lasting world. In this ted talk he talked about Vancouver being one of the best at doing this.


Cities and urban areas are responsible for 70-75% of global CO2 emissions

Andrea Reimer, Vancouver’s deputy mayor told the Guardian: “There’s a compelling moral imperative but also a fantastic economic case to be a green city.” The 100% goal is likely to be set for a target year of 2030 or 2035.
